MAA AdBall |
|
The Malaysia Advertising Association (MAA) AdBall was held at Shangri-La
in Kuala Lumpur on a Friday evening.
The theme was "Chicago" and during the competition between
broadcasters and others in the ad industry, many versions of the same
songs from the movie were repeated. Ning Baizura was excellent although
viewing clearly from our table in the far corner of the ballroom was
nigh impossible.
Thanks to Dev Singh Dhaliwal from Silver Box - OMG Media for the opportunity
to doll up and enjoy a great evening with newfound friends.

BAM - Brand Entrepreneurs
Conference 2003
Our Managing Director, Jillian Young, attended the Branding Association
of Malaysia Conference held at the Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel. This
Conference was aimed at Entrepreneurs in Malaysia and those in the
branding industry, The officiating Guest of Honour was Y.B. Dato'
Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, the Minister of Entrepreneur Development
- a very amusing guy who even had the courtesy to apologise for being
late.
Speakers included a number of prestigious speakers including: Datuk
Jeff Yong (MD - Royal Selangor), Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Jeffrey Cheah (Founder
& Chairman - Sunway Group), Dato' Jamaludin Ibrahim (DEO - Maxis),
Tan Sri Dato' Lim Kok Wing (President - Malaysia Design Technology
Centre). Some good case studies were presented including the rebranding
exercises of Maxis and Astro.
From the content presented and questions asked by the audience of
over 300, it was very clear that there is an increased interest in
branding in Malaysia as well as a lack of understanding about the
differences and value of branding versus marketing and advertising.

The ICT Carnival Baling-Sik, Kuala Ketil, Kedah Darul Aman
was a huge success drawing over 10,000 eager students, teachers and
others to visit the educational, corporate and product demonstrations
at Sekolah Menangah Kebangsaan Kuala Ketil.
Despite the extremely hot temperatures and humidity, the thousands
of participants and exhibitors alike enjoyed the festivities. Apart
from the booths, there were cadets marching, dancing performances
by the students, and competitions sponsored by the Ministry, MDC and
corporate sponsors.Other sponsors who attended were Tenaga Nasional,
Telekom Malaysia, POS Malaysia, telcos and educational institutions.

Some of Spyder Technologies' management and staff enjoyed an
interesting evening at the "Sound" section of the "Intensify
Your Senses" series sponsored by Kent at DeLaWi in Bangsar.
Unfortunately, we did not manage to win a sound system for our office
during the competition organised by Jungle Jerry, but we gave it a
good shot.

The Spyder Team hosted the much-delayed annual function for
friends, ex-staff and business associates at our Managing Director's
home in Ampang.
The approximately 40 Guests who attended were treated to a non-stop
supply of home-cooked delicacies including roast potatoes, lamb, satay,
barbequed steak, chicken, etc. while they lazed around the pool and
experienced the panoramic view of Kuala Lumpur City Centre and environs.
